Halloween is Thursday night, and after nearly a week of events leading up to the famous annual day of spookiness, at least one of its activities will spill over to Friday, Nov. 1.

Most communities will observe Thursday as the traditional neighborhood trick-or-treat night, with many area churches offering their alternative “trunk-or-treat” events that will keep the kids off the streets.

Here are some activities planned for our area:

• Norris: the annual Halloween on the Commons event will be held from 4:30-6 p.m. in the downtown area.

Participants are encouraged to wear their costumes, swap ghost stories, and enjoy a hot dog dinner in the Lions Club Pavilion, provided by the Norris Recreation Commission, before heading out afterward to trick-or-treat along city streets.

There will be a costume parade, and at 5:45, participants will gather for the annual group photo on the steps in front of Norris Middle School.

• Rocky Top: Because Halloween falls on Thursday this year, Rocky Top’s Recreation Committee chose Friday, Nov. 1, for its annual Trunk or Treat event.

Also being referred to as a fall festival, it will be held from 6-8 p.m. at George Templin Field near the public library on North Main Street.

This celebration includes food, hayrides, pumpkin carving, a costume contest and more.
