Lindsey Verner named softball coach at ACHS
“When they announced the decision, the first thing that happened was that all the other coaches texted me to welcome me,” said Verner, who was named the school’s new softball coach on Friday.
She replaces Allen Russell, who resigned last month to spend more time with his family.
Verner said she’s excited to continue Russell’s tradition of success with the Lady Mavericks on the diamond.
“I’m just excited to get started, and I look forward to carrying on what Coach Russell has started,” she said. “The things that appealed to me about the job were the talent of the girls and the family feel of Anderson County. Everybody has welcomed me, and that really made me feel at ease.”
A 2012 graduate of Coalfield High School, Verner played softball for the Lady Yellow Jackets before moving on to a collegiate career that included stints at Marshall University (2012-14) and East Tennessee State (2015-17).
She previously served as an assistant coach at Hardin Valley Academy in Knoxville under Whitney Hickam-Cruze and also held assistant coaching positions at Oak Ridge and Harriman.
Verner was also co-head coach of the Tennessee Fury, a local travel team.
She currently works as a counselor at Midtown Education Center, an alternative school in Roane County.
Verner has been married to her husband, Corey, for seven years. The couple, together for nine years, has a 4-year-old daughter, Cheyenne.
“When I’m away from softball, I spend time with my family,” she said.
“I’m a family-oriented person, and we spend a lot of time together. We go to church, go on hikes, and have a lot of family gatherings.”
Sports are also a big part of her life. She’s an avid UCLA softball fan and spends her fall Saturdays watching the Georgia Bulldogs on the gridiron.
“I’m all about UCLA softball, and I married a Georgia fan,” Verner said.
“So it’s all about Georgia football in my house on Saturdays.”
