Anderson County High School’s swim teams opened their 2024-25 season Sunday at the University of Tennessee’s Allan Jones Intercollegiate Aquatic Center.

The Mavericks and Lady Mavericks competed against Farragut and Concord Christian School.

ACHS Coach Stephanie Coker didn’t have final times from Sunday afternoon’s meet, but said she was pleased with the performances of both of her teams.

“I thought things went really well, especially considering that we were swimming against teams that were bigger than we are,” Coker said. “I have some new swimmers, and they’re learning and figuring out what they’re going to be doing. Some of them have swum before, but it’s been years.”

Senior Avery Coker had a strong first meet in his final season competing for the Mavericks.

An Anderson County relay team, swimming together for the first time, also placed second in the 200-yard freestyle relay.

“Avery finished second or third in all of his events, and our relay team that had never swum together before finished second in the 200 free relay,” Coach Coker said.

“Now we’re going to work on making our championship cuts and state cuts.”

Anderson County will have a long break before returning to action on Nov. 24 against Maryville and Farragut at National Fitness Center in Maryville.
