Time for a Turkey Shoot

Norris Lions host annual turkey shoot in November

Nothing says Thanksgiving like winning your bird at the Norris Lions Club Turkey Shoot.

Back by popular demand, the Norris Lions Club will be putting on its annual turkey shoot on two consecutive Saturdays, Nov. 9 and 16.

In the event of rain, a contingency day has been scheduled for Saturday, Nov. 23.

The shoot will be at the club’s regular location in Andersonville along Route 61 about one mile east of the traffic light at the entrance to Norris.

The event will begin at 8 a.m. and continue until 2 p.m.

So, what exactly is a turkey shoot?

Twelve contestant per round will shoot at paper targets 90 feet away on a range with shotguns.

The shooter closest to the center of the target wins the round.

Winners receive $20 gift certificates for turkey rounds or $30 certificate for ham rounds.

People can bring their own shotguns, or use one of the club’s.

All shotgun shells are provided only by range staff and are $4 per shell for turkey rounds and $5 for ham rounds.

Shells will be provided for a range of gauges.

The range setup and experienced personnel ensure the event is conducted safely.

For anyone who would like to win a turkey certificate but can’t participate in the shoot, Lions Club members will be selling target sheets – each with eight individual targets.

People may purchase a single target for $5 and have a one-in-eight chance of winning, or purchase additional targets to increase their odds. For only $40, they can buy the whole target and win a bird, all while supporting the Lions Club.

Targets will be shot by the Lions at the end of each day and the winners notified.

This is a popular event and a family tradition for many in this area.
