CPD Chief Becker retiring, continuing as PI
“I decided to retire about a year ago to spend more time with my family,” Becker said.
His retirement comes after serving in law enforcement for 37 years, the past 23 at Clinton and last six as chief. But he won’t be retiring from all work.
Becker said he’s been a licensed private investigator since earlier this year and already has an office for his company, Vaughn Becker Investigations at 200 Prosperity Drive, Suite 233A, in Knoxville.
He said he’d like to specialize in civil and criminal case preparation, child custody cases and domestic issues.
His website, yourtnpi.com, states that he’s serving Knox, Anderson, Campbell, Scott, Roane, Morgan, Blount, Sevier, Jefferson, and Loudon counties.
“I’m going to miss the people I enjoyed working with and really enjoyed helping as chief,” he said.
“There are some great people at the Police Department and the city government, and the citizens, of course.”
Becker worked in many different positions during just his time in Clinton. He started as a patrol officer in 2001, became a detective in 2002, a detective sergeant around 2006, a lieutenant over the detective division in 2011, assistant chief in 2014 and chief in 2018.
He said he most enjoyed his work as a detective, a position he held elsewhere as well.
“That was probably the most-rewarding time in my career,” Becker said. “I worked a homicide or two and really enjoyed it,” he said of his detective work for the CPD.
He is, however, looking forward to his private investigative work. He said he’ll use some of the same skills he used as a police detective, including interviewing people and processing crime scenes.
“I’ll still be able to help people doing something I know, which I think is going to be really rewarding for me,” he said.
