Lady Dragons show fight despite early losses
The Clinton High School girls basketball team entered the 2024-25 season with high hopes, but the Lady Dragons have faced early challenges.
Clinton dropped its season opener to Lenoir City 51-47 on Tuesday, Nov. 19, in a Hall of Fame game at the Don W. Lockard Gymnasium.
The Lady Dragons started strong, leading 15-10 after the first quarter and taking a 24-19 advantage into halftime.
However, the Lady Panthers turned things around in the second half, holding Clinton to just 23 points while scoring 32 of their own to secure the win.
Addi Gamble led Clinton with 10 points, while Josie Moody added nine and Allie York chipped in eight.
Lenoir City was paced by Kara Grisham, who scored 10 points. Lexi Varner and Rylee Bolling contributed eight points apiece.
On Saturday, the Lady Dragons traveled to Kodak for two more Hall of Fame games, facing stiff competition from two of the state’s elite teams.
Clinton fell to reigning Class 4A state champion Bearden 59-29 in its first game of the day.
Later, the Lady Dragons faced host Northview Academy, losing 81-56.
Despite the rocky start, Clinton’s competitive efforts against top-tier opponents suggest a season of growth and development ahead.
