Jefferson Lady Eagles show promise despite 1-4 start

Jefferson Middle School’s young girls basketball team is off to a 1-4 start, but Coach Katie Bolling remains optimistic.

Three of the Lady Eagles’ four losses have been decided by nine points or fewer.

“We’re competing, but we just haven’t been able to get over the hump,” Bolling said. “We haven’t put four good quarters together yet. We have a very young team.

“We’ll get there. We’re getting better. I’m happy with their effort, their attitude, and the fact that they don’t give up.”

On Thursday, the Lady Eagles fell to Norris 35-26. Harper Eckert led Jefferson with five points, while Jordyn Owens added four.

On Monday, Nov. 18, Jefferson lost to the (Webb Middle) Lady Spartans, 28-20.

Owens and Alibelle McMahon each scored five points.

The Lady Eagles were defeated by Cherokee Middle School 47-20 on Thursday, Nov. 14.

Owens and McMahon again led the team, each scoring six points.

Jefferson opened the season on Monday, Nov. 11, with a 36-27 loss to Clinton.

McMahon scored 12 points in the season opener, while Kyla Chartrand added six.
