C&D Tires reopens with new ownership
A fire at the business Feb. 2 forced it to close.
The shop, at 164 Fairbanks Road, reopened Thursday Dec. 5.
In addition to its previous tire and oil-change the business now does fluid flushes, and service manager Christian Bivens told The Courier News it might begin offering tune-ups.
The new owner is Jeffrey Cheek, an Anderson County resident who also owns Countryside Tire and Auto Service.
He bought the store from Zack Moore, who ran it along with his sister, Caity Moore, having inherited the store from their father Gerald Moore, who retired in 2018.
Gerald Moore’s wife, Katrina Moore, announced the sale on Facebook Dec. 2. She said Cheek was already interested in buying even before the fire.
“Today marks the end of an era for our family,” she stated in her post on Dec. 2.
“Fortunately, the buyer was still interested, and although it’s been a very long and tough year through extensive renovations, our family closed on the shop today. The C&D name will remain, and we anticipate the great quality and service you’ve come to expect from C&D will continue.”
Bivens said the most-difficult aspect of opening the new store was waiting on permits and contractors, as well as cleaning up tire ash, which he said affected his clothes.
He said the fire caused some environmental damage to the area behind the store, which includes a stream, but he and others at the store helped the Environmental Protection Agency dig up polluted soil.
He said that other than the cleanup, everything needed to re-open the business had gone well.
“Not very many people get to work in a brand-new shop,” he said regarding all of the upgrades the new owners have made. “We can give our new customers the best outcome.”
Neither the previous nor current ownership is affiliated with any other C&D locations in East Tennessee.
