Starting Monday, Jan. 6, all of Anderson County’s trash convenience centers will begin new operating hours, and residents may be asked to provide proof of residence in the county before dropping off their trash, according to the Solid Waste Management Department.’

All of the centers will be open from 7:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Friday, and from 7:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday.

That’s a change from the current hours of 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Saturday, which have been in effect since July 1, 2022.

The change will open the centers a half-hour earlier during the week, but close them three hours earlier on Saturdays.

According to an announcement from county Mayor Terry Frank’s office, the earlier opening time is intended to help accommodate dropping-off of trash before work on weekdays.

The Saturday hours are shortened to accommodate the additional weekday early morning times, and to better align with the landfill’s Saturday hours, the release said.

These changes were recommended by the Anderson County Solid Waste Advisory Board, and flyers are being distributed at all of the county’s convenience centers.

Signs announcing the new hours and their start times have also been posted at the entrances to the convenience centers.

In addition, “in order to ensure tax dollars are serving only Anderson County residents,” anyone entering a convenience center to drop off trash may be asked to show a driver’s license or utility bill to prove residence, and help reduce use by out-of-county residents.
