Clinton, Oak Ridge city employees ball out for Isaiah 117 House
Basketball fans will have the chance to have some fun while supporting a worthy cause on Saturday, Jan. 25, when employees from the city of Clinton face off against employees from the city of Oak Ridge in a charity hoops spectacular at 2 p.m. at Clinton High School.
This inaugural showcase of basketball talent will benefit Isaiah 117 House.
And yes, basketball talent will be on display — but not in the Larry Bird, Michael Jordan, or Steph Curry sense of the word.
The real talent lies in these employees’ dedication to their everyday jobs, which serve the residents of their respective cities.
Their commitment to their communities will shine through as they step onto the court to raise awareness of and, hopefully, ly, mega funds for a worthy cause.
Sure, there won’t be windmill dunks on display, and the Triangle Offense probably won’t be highlighted, but the game will feature several things you won’t find on the court or courtside even in an NBA arena.
There will be a good-natured rivalry for two proud communities (and those employees who represent them) to cheer for.
Marquis of Queensbury Rules will be used, unless the players opt to adapt “Mortal Kombat” guidelines. That’s still in negotiation.
It’s Clinton vs. Oak Ridge.
Just mentioning a matchup involving these two communities causes a deep intake of breath, a nervous twitch in the eye, a tremor of the soul, and sometimes even a runny nose.
Even a throwdown of tiddly winks between Clinton and Oak Ridge stirs attention.
It is an event for the entire family. Well, maybe not the family pets (unless they are service animals).
It’s going to be fun. Have you ever watched an older-type person chug up and down a basketball court? It’s a hoot. That’s why it’s a hoops spectacular.
But most importantly it’s for a good cause.
No — It’s for a great cause.
Isaiah 117 House provides physical and emotional support for children awaiting placement in foster homes.
It is a scary time for most of these kids. Isaiah 117 House is a measure of reassurance at a time when that is most important.
There is no admission to this rivalry game, but donations will be accepted and all proceeds go to Isaiah 117 House.
