Lady Mavericks’ Ava Moody adds to stellar career with with All-State honor

Anderson County High School junior Ava Moody has been named to the Tennessee Sports Writers Association Class A/AA All-State Cross Country Team.

Moody, a standout in cross country and track, has claimed three state championships during her decorated career with the Lady Mavericks.

Her most-recent title came on Nov. 7 at the TSSAA Class A/AA cross country championships, held at Sanders Ferry Park in Hendersonville.

She completed the 5,000-meter course in 18 minutes, 17.96 seconds.

In addition to her state titles, Moody is a two-time regional cross country champion. As a sophomore in fall 2023, she finished third at the state cross country meet, also held in Hendersonville.

Moody’s success extends to the track, where she captured the 1,600-meter and 3,200-meter titles at the Class AA state championships during the 2024 Spring Fling in Murfreesboro.

Her achievements continue to cement her legacy as one of Anderson County’s premier athletes.

Indoor Track

Anderson County High School continued its 2025 indoor track and field season Sunday at the KYA Southeast Showdown in Louisville, Kentucky.

Luke Dark had a big day for the Mavericks as he won the shot put competition with a mark of 17.92 meters. He also took second in the weight throw with a mark of 18.62 meters.

Jumper Ace Dunegan placed 11th in the high jump with a leap of 1.92 meters.

Senior sprinter Brandon LaRue finished eighth in the boys’ 60-meter run as he clocked in with a time of 7.21 seconds. Ben Clotfelder came in 30th in the 800-meter run as he crossed the finish line in 2 minutes. 4.47 seconds.

In the boys’ 1-mile run, Vance Laster was 24th (4:33.98) and J.J Cutler claimed 40th (4:45.20).
