Bo Wright signs with Union College

Clinton senior wide receiver and defensive back Bo Wright is joined by family as he signs his letter of intent to continue his academic and athletic career at Union College in Barbourville, Kentucky.
Clinton High School senior football player Bo Wright finalized his college plans recently by signing a national letter of intent with Union College, an NAIA school in Barbourville, Kentucky.

Wright, a dynamic wide receiver and defensive back for the Dragons, will transition to safety for the Bulldogs. He credited the strong bonds he formed with Union’s players and coaches for his decision.

“My defensive coaches love me; they were hyping me up,” Wright said. “A lot of the players are from the Knoxville area, and I just got along with them.”

Wright, a senior, plans to pursue a degree in sports medicine while aiming to become a personal trainer.

He also stressed the importance of attending a Christian school — a value rooted in his upbringing.

“That’s important to me because of the way I grew up and how I was raised,” he said.

Wright chose to attend Union because of the interest he received from the coaching staff and the opportunity to play early in his career.

“Really, they were the school that showed me the most interest, and I know that I would go up there and play and make an impact,” he said. “When I went up there, they told us that for all our classes except your major, classes would only have 20-25 people, and I liked that.”

Wright also valued Union’s location — about two-and-a-half hours from home — striking a balance between familial support and independence.

“It’s important for me to be close to home so my family can come and see me play, but it’s also important for me to be far enough away from home,” he said.
