The Anderson County High School girls basketball team’s 2024-25 season ended in heartbreaking fashion last week in the Region 2-AAA quarterfinals.

The Lady Mavericks fell 37-36 to Seymour on Friday night at ACHS, closing their campaign with a 14-17 record.

Anderson County took a late lead, 36-35, when Macy Basford sank a three-pointer inside the final minute of the contest. However, the Lady Eagles, the third-place team from District 3-AAA, responded with a last-second shot as Chloe McCoy hit the game-winner with 9.9 seconds left.

The Lady Mavericks had one final opportunity to reclaim the lead but couldn’t convert.

Anderson County, the District 4-AAA runner-up, finished third in the regular-season standings and secured district tournament wins over Gibbs and second-seeded Clinton. The Lady Mavericks fell in a close game to top-seeded Scott in the district tournament championship.

Basford led all scorers in the region quarterfinal with 22 points, making six three-pointers and accounting for all of the Lady Mavericks’ points from beyond the arc.

McCoy led the Lady Eagles with 12 points. The win marked the third time in four years that Seymour has ended Anderson County’s season.
