A grading permit was issued to the church by the city of Clinton on March 5, and the site plan for the fellowship hall was approved by the city’s Planning Commission in mid-March, according to the city and the church.
In the church’s March 2 bulletin, posted on its website, it was written that excavation was expected to begin the following week.
“The new parking area will be raised and smoothed, then a layer of gravel added,” the note said.
“The footers in preparation for the fellowship hall building will be poured shortly afterwards.
“The parking lot will be paved when construction of the building is complete so as not to damage the new asphalt with construction traffic, so we will have a gravel parking lot for [a] short time,” the bulletin note said.
Associate Minister Clint Patterson said last week that the church had purchased the vacant lot between the main church building and Deal’s Distributing Co. to accommodate the fellowship hall and parking-lot expansion.
Concrete pavement was broken up and removed first, then crews began bringing in truckloads of fill dirt to build up the site.
In the March 16 Sunday’s bulletin, the church noted that “The fellowship hall spot has been prepared, and once a foundation slab has been poured, the steel frame will be erected.”
JCR Construction, headed by Justin Robbins, is the contractor for the project, according to an earlier posting in the bulletin.
The fellowship hall will be a one-story building.
Patterson said the church also recently completed some work in the main church building to add an audio-visual room at the rear of the sanctuary.
“The new Audio/Visual Room is complete and working well,” a March 16 bulletin posting said.
“This move has created more space for seating, and the six additional pews will be reupholstered soon to match our other pews.”
