Mavericks bats, arms deliver in 2-1 week stretch

Anderson County High School’s baseball team continued its 2025 campaign by winning two of three games last week.

The Mavericks (4-4) suffered their lone loss of the week Saturday, falling 9-2 to District 3-AAA favorite Seymour on the road.

Blake Lowe accounted for both of Anderson County’s runs, belting a solo home run in the top of the first inning and driving in the team’s second run. He finished 1-for-3.

Trent Strickland had two hits against the Eagles, while Nelson Benson went 1-for-3 with a run scored.

On Friday, the Mavericks shut out The King’s Academy 5-0 behind a dominant complete-game effort from Wil Ridenour, who tossed a two-hitter with five strikeouts over seven innings.

Ridenour also helped his cause at the plate, going 1-for-3 with an RBI.

Alex Bond added a triple and an RBI, while Jeremiah Owens doubled and scored.

The Mavericks opened the week with an 11-0 blowout over Greenback on Tuesday, March 18, despite collecting just four hits.

Bond went 1-for-2 and scored twice. Lowe was 1-for-1 with an RBI and two runs. Benson singled, scored, and drove in a run, while Kris Pelliccio also had a hit and scored.

Clay Fletcher and Daniel Unthank combined for a one-hit shutout. Fletcher started and picked up the win, allowing one hit and two walks while striking out six. Unthank closed it out with a scoreless seventh, striking out one and walking two.

Anderson County opened District 4-AAA play this week with a two-game series against Gibbs on Monday and Tuesday. The Mavericks won Monday night’s meeting 12-2. Results for Tuesday were unavailable at press time.

The Mavericks are set to host Knoxville West on Thursday at 2:30 p.m.

They’ll welcome Sevier County on Friday at 5 p.m., followed by a nightcap against McEwen at 7:30.

On Saturday, Anderson County hosts Macon County at 11 a.m. and Riverside (West Virginia) at 1:30 p.m.
