ACHS track delivers big at Oak Ridge, Lenoir City

Anderson County High School’s track and field teams competed in a pair of meets last week, and several Mavericks and Lady Mavericks came away with standout performances.

Athletes participated in the Oak Ridge Legends Meet on Friday and Saturday, with multiple top finishes.

Waylon LaRue captured first place in both the 100-meter dash (10.82 seconds) and 200-meter dash (22.52). Joseph Hall won the boys long jump with a leap of 22 feet, 3 inches, while Ace Dunegan placed sixth in the high jump at 5-4.

In the girls competition, junior distance runner Ava Moody claimed victories in both the 1,600-meter and 3,200-meter runs. She posted a time of 5:06.02 in the 1,600 and 11:07.08 in the 3,200. Jordan Walker added a fifth-place finish in the 1,600 with a time of 5:50.67.

Earlier in the week, Anderson County also competed at Lenoir City.

Bralee Hall recorded a pair of Top 10 finishes, taking eighth in the 100-meter dash (14.30) and 10th in the 800-meter run (2:57.51). Marley Caldwell placed seventh in the 800 (2:53.15), and Moody finished third in the 400-meter dash (1:05.73).

In boys events, Hall placed 10th in the 100 (11.97). The Mavericks swept the top spots in the 200-meter dash: Waylon LaRue won in 22.86, Lane LaRue was second (24.16) and Landon Rainey finished seventh (24.81).

In the 800, Vance Laster took second (2:03.08), and John Cutler came in third (2:04.18). Zander Vo placed eighth in the 1,600 (5:25.22).

Hall repeated as long-jump champion (20-9), and Dunegan was third in high jump (5-6).

Thrower Luke Dark had a strong day, winning the shot put with a throw of 60-9 and placing seventh in the discus (119-1).
