Bostrom, Hollifield lead Clinton effort at Lenoir City track meet

Clinton High School track and field continues to post solid results, despite being hampered by injuries.

“We’re a little nicked-up right now,” Clinton Coach Tim Kumes said.

“But we’ve had some kids do really well. Cooper Bostrom and Alli Hollifield both had good results at our meet last Tuesday in Lenoir City.”

In the boys’ meet, Bostrom placed third in the 1,600-meter run with a time of 5 minutes, 8.65 seconds.

Donnavin Pencek had a strong outing, finishing second in the 100-meter dash (11.58) and third in the 200 (24.31). He also notched a second-place finish in the long jump with a leap of 19 feet, 0.25 inches.

Konner Baylis was third in the 400-meter dash (54.05) and fifth in the 200 (24.41). Ryin Jones finished ninth in the 100 (11.94).

Lucas Butz continued to shine in the hurdles, winning the 110-meter event with a time of 15.76 seconds. He also finished second in the 300 hurdles (41.90).

“Lucas Butz is just a workhorse,” Kumes said. “He works so hard.”

In the high jump, teammates Dylan Phillips and Austin Steen tied for seventh, each clearing 5 feet, 2 inches. Jones took sixth in the long jump (17-0.25), while Steen placed ninth (16-5). Jackson Ayers claimed seventh in the discus with a throw of 59-8.

In the girls’ meet, senior Alli Hollifield placed second in the 1,600-meter run with a time of 6:10.99. She was ninth in the 800 (2:54.86) and 10th in the long jump (11-11.5).

Sprinter Saviah Stewart finished fifth in both the 100 (14.01) and 400 (1:07.73), and was sixth in the 200 (30.03).

Laci Clevenger placed fifth in the 200 (29.90), 10th in the 100 (19.67), and 10th in the 400 (1:10.11).

Kenzlee Hutchison took fourth in the shot put with a mark of 27-4. Clinton’s 4x100-meter relay team finished fourth (1:02.13), while Ashleigh Alcott was ninth in the 100-meter hurdles (23.53).

Both the Dragons and Lady Dragons competed Tuesday at Christian Academy of Knoxville, but results were not available at press time. They will also compete in the South-Doyle Invitational in Knoxville.

“When we go to CAK and South-Doyle, those will be good opportunities to see where we’re at,” Kumes said. “We’ll see some of the people who we’ll be competing against at sectionals.”
