The John Shuey Memorial Scholarship is a choral and vocal music scholarship awarded to a senior vocal music student at Oak Ridge High School to further their studies at a college or university.

A 1969 graduate of Oak Ridge High School, John Shuey was known for his beautiful voice. He performed several solos during high school and was also a member of the varsity basketball team. After graduation, he was awarded a scholarship for vocal music and athletics to Cleveland State College.

Shuey performed at the Oak Ridge Playhouse and frequently sang at weddings for friends and family. The $2,500 scholarship is awarded in his honor to perpetuate his love for music and community.

The winner of the inaugural John Shuey Memorial Scholarship is 2025 Oak Ridge High School graduate Brady Fuson.

Fuson participated in the ORHS choral program for four years, completing all eight semesters of his high school career. He was a member of the Select Chorus for one year and a member of the Ensemble for three years. He was selected by his peers as the most valuable tenor/bass in Ensemble and was the recipient of the Fred Waring Award for 2024-25.

In addition to his involvement in the choral program, Fuson served as Student Council president and was a member of the ORHS tennis team. He will attend the University of Cincinnati in the fall.
