Travis Freeman will be the new principal at Anderson County High School.

Freeman brings with him 23 years of service to Anderson County Schools, a news release stated.

He is a 2001 graduate of East Tennessee State University with a B.S. in physical education, and a 2008 graduate of Tennessee Tech University with a master’s in instructional leadership.

Freeman began with Anderson County Schools in February 2002 at Clinton Middle School in the alternative program. Later that year, he transitioned to the Appalachian Regional Commission program at The Alternative School.

In 2004, he joined Claxton Elementary as a physical education teacher, where he quickly became assistant principal under Ruth Dobbs.

His leadership journey continued as he moved to Anderson County High School, where he had served as assistant principal for the past 17 years, working alongside former Principal Greg Deal.

In addition to his academic leadership he has supported many different athletic activities as baseball assistant coach in 2002; football assistant at Clinton High School from 2002 through 2003 and ACHS from 2004 through 2006 and softball assistant from 2012-13 and softball head coach from 2014-17.

“Beyond school, Freeman is a devoted husband to April, celebrating 23 years of marriage this June,” the news release stated. “April is a former school nurse and health science teacher in Anderson County, currently serving as an [family nurse practicioner] at United Cleanup of Oak Ridge.

They are parents to Hannah (special-education major at UTK), Leah (technical communications major at Kennesaw State), and Chloe, a rising senior at ACHS.

“Please join us in congratulating Mr. Freeman on this exciting new chapter,” the release said.

“We are confident his leadership will continue to inspire excellence at ACHS.”
