Taylor Cullison, special-events coordinator for Clinton Parks and Recreation, said the city is partnering with Brunswick Bowling for an estimated $370,000 worth of renovations.
They involve new ball returns, gutter guards, masking, and the back-end pin-loading mechanism.
The new alley will keep the wooden lanes, however, which Cullison said are still in good condition.
The new system will automatically keep score, unlike the current one.
City Manager Roger Houck said that while the city regularly sands the lanes every four or five years, the rest of the alley hasn’t had major renovations since 1978.
The city has had trouble finding replacement parts.
“I think the visitors will appreciate the overall update to the aesthetic and automatic scoring features,” Cullison said.
Workers started removing the old pieces on July 9.
Reopening date has not been announced.
