Cole brings passion and familiarity to Maverick golf program

By his own admission, Dallas Cole has lived a blessed life.

He’s only 22 years old and recently graduated from Middle Tennessee State University with a degree in sports management.

Now, he may be the youngest high school head coach in Tennessee.

“I’m grateful for the opportunity to coach this team, coach these kids, serve this community and coach this great game,” said Cole, who was recently named head golf coach at Anderson County High School.

“I’m blessed, and I know the Lord has put me here,” he said. “I feel like this is where God wants me to be.

“I’ve been here for three years, and I’m blessed to have this opportunity. It’s great to have a community, a staff, a faculty and an administration that loves sports and supports you.”

Despite his youth, Cole isn’t a stranger to coaching.

“I’ve been at Norris [Middle School] the last three years,” Cole said. “I started playing golf in middle school at Clinton, played for three years there, then four years at Clinton High School. I also played at Roane State.

“It was when I was at Roane State that I started coaching at Norris,” Cole said. “They hired me when I was 19. I turned 20 three days later.”

Anderson County Athletic Director Gary Terry announced Cole’s hiring on Sunday.

He replaces Patrick Leverton, who was recently named an assistant principal at ACHS.

“Dallas Cole will be the new golf coach,” Terry said via text message. “We are excited to welcome him to the Maverick Family.”

The Mavericks and Lady Mavs will open the 2025 campaign on Aug. 4, and Cole said both squads will be ready.

“What appealed to me about this job is that I’ve coached a lot of these kids before,” he said. “They had some success last year, and they’re ready to win now. We have great kids.”

Anderson County has moved to Class A due to TSSAA re-alignment and reclassification. The program previously competed in Class AA.

Cole said the team is prepared to meet the new challenge.

“We’re excited and we’re looking forward to the challenge this season,” said Cole, who also played tennis at Clinton.
