W. Scott Aaron has been with the Marlow Volunteer Fire Department since 1979 and has served in many different roles.

The Anderson County Commission honored Aaron with a resolution at its Monday, Aug. 18 meeting, which was presented to him by Mayor Terry Frank.

It declared Aug. 22 Scott Aaron Day. Tennessee Lt. Gov. Randy McNally was also at the meeting and presented him with a different proclamation approved by the Tennessee Senate.

Aaron thanked the County Commission and Frank not just for the award but for the county’s continued support.

“I think that it’s allowed us to grow from one fire truck that was a year older than I was at the time and no fire station to two fire stations,” he said, also listing rescue trucks, a boat, a drone, an all-terrain vehicle and a third station in progress.

The resolution stated that in his more than 46 years with the department, he’s served in nearly every kind of role including administrative officer, training officer, assistant chief, and trustee.

In 2009, he was the first recipient of the MVFD Scott Aaron Lifetime Achievement Award, “which has been named in his honor, recognizing his outstanding and enduring contributions and steadfast commitment to the safety of the community,” the resolution stated.

McNally said he served as a member of the MVFD in the early 1980s.

“It was a real pleasure for me to get to know Scott and his dedication and commitment to the people of the Marlow community and the people of Anderson County,” McNally said. He reminisced about helping the MVFD fight a trailer fire.

The county resolution also honored Aaron for his contributions to research at Oak Ridge National Laboratory in multiple roles, and as husband, father and grandfather.

“Even though I’m getting much older, and not as active as I used to be, I’m still working both for the fire department and ORNL,” Aaron said.
