Anderson County High School made the most of its home course Saturday at the Norris Dam Invitational, with both the Lady Mavericks and Mavericks turning in strong showings.

Senior Ava Moody claimed the girls’ overall title, winning in 18 minutes, 3.58 seconds.

“Ava ran well. We were hoping to get her under 18, but she was just a hair above that,” ACHS coach Mollie Fox said. “We had some success, especially with the girls.”

Sophomore Jordan Walker finished 16th (20:11.95), while classmate Rebekah Berg placed 21st (20:39.41). Sydney Day was 45th (22:19.17) and Emma Owens came in 83rd (24:45.68).

For the Maverick boys, JJ Cutler continued to lead the way with a 16th-place effort (16:40.85). Cameron Hardy took 36th (17:31.89), Avian Laster finished 57th (18:15.98), Franklin Downs was 88th (19:06.74) and Toby Day crossed in 102nd (18:42.43).

“JJ has been our No. 1 runner all season, and I think he had a PR today,” Fox said.

Oak Ridge also had reason to celebrate. Senior Mason Greenhalgh won the boys’ race with a time of 15:44.24. Teammate Rhett Hovater finished eighth (16:21.95).

“I was really proud of Mason, and I was pleased with Rhett’s time,” Oak Ridge coach Ed Wright said. “We’ve had some injuries and our four and five guys are freshmen. If our No. 3 had been healthy, it would’ve been a lot closer against Hardin Valley.”

Other Wildcats included William Hetrick (38th, 17:36.99), Julien Kelley (45th, 17:48.15) and James Phillips (47th, 17:51.24).

The Lady Wildcats had Dylan Job place 14th (19:18.34). Newcomer Amaijah Bishop finished 18th (20:04.42), transfer Kenda Hurt was 20th (20:32.46), returner Brooke Roessner took 22nd (20:44.92) and Natalie Adams came in 26th (21:05.53).

Clinton coach Tim Kumes saw several of his runners record personal bests on the flat, fast Norris Dam course.

Freshman Lily West paced the Lady Dragons with a 61st-place finish (23:18.34). Senior Kenzlee Hutchison was 88th (25:14.18), and Piper Bostrom took 90th (25:24.68).

For the boys, Cooper Bostrom crossed in 41st (17:39.20). Freshman Baylor Cool was 74th (18:47.99), followed by Caleb Holt (121st, 20:22.98), Max Bostrom (168th, 22:46.74) and Tyler Gomez (172nd, 23:10.25).

“We had several runners hit PRs Saturday, and these kids are getting better,” Kumes said. “The kids love this course. It’s just a great place to run.”
