The 2025 volleyball season ended early last week for Clinton High School.

The Lady Dragons finished 27-14 after a 26-24, 25-14, 25-14 loss to District 4-AAA champion William Blount on Tuesday, Oct. 14, in a Region 2-AAA semifinal at Anderson County High School.

“We won 27 games, but it just wasn’t our region’s year,” Clinton Coach Lorri Johnson said Monday, noting that both the Lady Governors and region runner-up (and District 3-AAA champion) Anderson County were swept in the state sectionals.

Clinton, the No. 2 seed after falling to Anderson County in the district championship, saw its three-year run of district titles snapped.

A trio of seniors played their final high school match at ACHS.

Clinton had four seniors on the 2025 roster, but Lanee Carmichael missed the season after a knee injury suffered during basketball last winter.

Carmichael, Josie Moody, and classmates Macy Wandell and Kyleigh Gallaher helped lift the program, with the Lady Dragons going 110-49 over their four years.

Moody departs with her name all over the CHS record book: 190 aces, 1,014 kills, 1,757 assists, 1,276 digs and 123 blocks.

“We’re back to work today,” Johnson said Monday.

“We’ll be young again next year, and replacing our seniors will be big for us. Of course, we played without Lanee this year. We hope she’s ready for basketball season. Josie is a great athlete — basketball and tennis — and she may try some track in the spring. We’ll miss Macy and Kyleigh for their leadership. They’ve been clutch for us.”

In the season finale, Moody posted a double-double with 10 kills and 12 digs, and added five assists against William Blount.
