Anderson County High School opened the 2025-26 boys basketball season on the road, short-handed, playing its first two games without several key contributors who were still on the football field Friday night.

The Mavericks (1-1) were in Pensacola, Florida, earlier this week for a pair of games. They went to the Gulf Coast with just seven players.

When they return after the Thanksgiving Break, they will gradually get their full complement of players.

“After Thanksgiving, we’re going to look a lot different; I’m not saying that we’re going to be better,” said Anderson County Coach Jordan Jeffers, who began his fourth season at the helm for the Mavericks. “But we’re going to be different.”

ACHS opened its season with a 62-38 victory over Kingston in a Hall of Fame game in Roane County on Tuesday, Nov. 18.

Against the Yellow Jackets, freshman Colton Lawson posted a double-double for the Mavericks as he scored 11 points and pulled down 16 rebounds.

Cam Lawson was Anderson County’s leading scorer, as he finished with 13 points.

Max Stanfill scored 11 points.

“Kingston lets you run and you have a lot of 5-on-4 or 3-on-2 matchups,” Jeffers said.

Upon their return to the hardwood in their home opener, the Mavericks suffered their first loss of the season as they fell to William Blount 64-59.

“The two were different types of games,” Jeffers said. “Kingston lets you get on and run, and William Blount was physical and they made us play. They were very physical, and they did a good job.

“We don’t have a lot of depth right now.” Jeffers said.

“We’re missing a lot of bodies right now, but I thought we played hard and I thought we were in good shape endurance wise.”

Cam Lawson scored 19 points against the Governors.

Colton Lawson added 16.

Justin Bunch finished with 11 against William Blount.
