Maddox, a senior, scored 35 points to lead the Dragons past longtime rival Powell 77-54 on Tuesday, Dec. 16, at the Don W. Lockard Gymnasium.
He shot 12-for-20 from the field, 4-for-6 from 3-point range and 7-for-9 at the free-throw line.
He also contributed four assists, three rebounds and three steals.
“Bryson has had a lot of 30-point games, but this was the best game that he’s played in terms of skill level,” Clinton Coach Chris Lockard said.
“In his other 30-point games, he’s done it because of his athletic ability. He’s just such a good athlete.”
Maddox, a three-sport standout who recently signed to play football at Middle Tennessee State University, also competes in track and field for the Dragons.
While Maddox led the way, he had plenty of help.
Tristan Lundy posted a double-double, finishing with 17 points and 11 rebounds.
“Tristan played really well,” Lockard said. “We really played pretty good.
“We did well defensively. Powell has a really good team, and Coach (Gary) Barnes gets them in the right places and in the right positions.”
Clinton’s defense was particularly strong down the stretch.
“We only gave up three points in the fourth quarter,” Lockard said.
“That was some of the best defense we’ve played in a while.”
Camden Nelson and Ben Tackett also played key roles.
Nelson scored seven points, dished out six assists, collected five steals and grabbed three rebounds.
Tackett added nine points.
Lockard praised Nelson’s leadership during the game.
“I didn’t have to do much,” Lockard said.
“Camden took the reins and made the calls. He really did a good job for us.”
The Dragons led from start to finish, holding a 22-19 lead after one quarter and extending it to 42-30 by halftime.
Clinton carried a 64-51 advantage into the fourth quarter and closed the game with a 13-3 run.
