Mavericks sweeps district doubleheader

Anderson County High School continued its early-season success on the baseball diamond last week, winning two of three games, including a District 4-AAA doubleheader sweep of Scott on Tuesday, March 10.

The Mavericks claimed a pair of 9-0 victories over the Highlanders.

In Game 1, Anderson County (6-2 overall, 2-0 in District 4-AAA) got a two-hit effort from pitcher Wil Ridenour, who struck out 11 in a five-inning complete game.

He also provided a spark at the plate, going 2-for-2 and scoring a run.

Max Giles also had a big offensive game for the Mavericks, going 2-for-3 with two RBIs and a run scored.

Jackson Harris went 1-for-1, scored three runs and drove in another, while Clay Fletcher singled, scored and got an RBI.

Daniel Unthank doubled, drove in a run and scored for Anderson County, which also got a 1-for-2 effort from Landry Sharp, who had an RBI and scored a run.

Game 2 of the twin bill belonged to Fletcher, who hurled a one-hit shutout over five innings against the Highlanders. He walked two and struck out 15. At the plate, he went 3-for-3 with two doubles and three RBIs. Reese Young also blasted a solo home run for the Mavericks.

ACHS, which is playing in a spring break tournament this week, dropped a 2-1 decision to defending Class 4A state semifinalist Oak Ridge on Friday night at Bobby Hopkins Field.

Anderson County collected five hits in the loss to the Wildcats.

Kris Pelliccio drove in the Mavericks’ lone run. Fletcher went 1-for-2, while Titus Fedders finished 1-for-2 with a run scored.
