Wildcats start District 4-4A play 2-0
Oak Ridge High School’s baseball team kept its perfect record intact with four wins last week.
The Wildcats also opened play in District 4-4A, their new league, as they swept McMinn County.
Oak Ridge defeated the Cherokees 2-1 on Monday, March 9, at Bobby Hopkins Field, and posted a 10-2 win Wednesday, March 11, in Athens.
Oak Ridge (7-0 overall, 2-0 in the district) won its District 4-4A debut at home against the Cherokees in walk-off fashion.
Whit Renegar delivered a game-winning single in the bottom of the seventh inning, plating Carson Feagan with the winning run.
Feagan also scored the game’s first run when Warren East, who went 2-for-3, delivered an RBI single.
Feagan finished 1-for-3 with a stolen base and two runs scored.
In the second game of the district series, the Wildcats notched a 10-2 victory.
Parker Free had a big day at the plate for Oak Ridge, going 3-for-4 with a pair of extra-base hits.
He homered, doubled, drove in four runs and scored once.
Joe Webb also homered for the Wildcats and knocked in two runs.
Mikee Teasley had a single, a stolen base, an RBI and two runs scored.
Brooks Poteet went 2-for-3 with two RBIs, two stolen bases and a run scored.
On Friday, Oak Ridge edged Anderson County 2-1 at home behind a 2-for-3 performance from East.
He drove in both runs and stole a base.
Feagan had a hit and scored a run. Free doubled, while Renegar singled and scored.
The Wildcats closed out the week with an 11-1 victory over Boyd Buchanan.
Oak Ridge got a solid performance on the mound from Jackson Guery, who tossed a five-inning complete game.
He allowed one run on two hits and one walk while striking out five.
East tripled and drove in three runs, while Teasley went 2-for-4 with an RBI and a run scored.
Webb doubled, stole a base and scored two runs against the Buccaneers.
