Yager seeks District 8 commission seat re-election

Phil Yager
Yager has served as commissioner for District 8 for almost 10 years, and he continues to provide experienced leadership focused on strong financial management and efficient government operations, he said. District 8 includes the polling locations of Emory Valley, Hendrix Creek, and Woodland.
“Serving the citizens of District 8 has been an honor, and I remain committed to responsible leadership that protects taxpayers and ensures county government operates efficiently,” Yager said in announcing his candidacy. “Over the past several years, we have worked hard to strengthen Anderson County’s financial position while maintaining the services our residents rely on.”
Yager has worked to strengthen county government by spearheading initiatives that improve efficiency, streamline processes, and reinforce fiscal responsibility. Through Yeager’s leadership and collaboration with fellow commissioners since he was first elected in 2016, Anderson County has continued to maintain a strong financial position while enhancing public safety services, he said.
Staying active in the community helps him better understand the needs and priorities of the people he represents.
He has committed his time to local nonprofits and has volunteered on several Oak Ridge city boards and commissions through appointments by the Oak Ridge City Council.
While Yager served as the chairman of the commission’s Financial Management Committee, his leadership positioned the county to have one of the strongest fund balances in its history and an AA bond rating from Standard & Poor’s, he said. These strong financial metrics have helped save Anderson County taxpayers thousands of dollars each year.
Yager has remained a strong advocate for the citizens of District 8, consistently working to ensure their voices are heard and their interests are represented on the commission.
He regularly engages with residents to understand their concerns and priorities, bringing those perspectives directly into commission discussions and decision-making.
Yager said he believes effective local leadership requires listening to constituents, addressing community needs, and ensuring county policies reflect the values and priorities of the people.
“My focus has always been on making county government work better for the people we serve,” Yager said. “I will continue working to promote fiscal responsibility, improve efficiency, and ensure Anderson County remains financially strong for the future.”
