Mavs pitch pair of clean sheets

After being shut out in its first match in March, Anderson County High School’s boys soccer team bounced back in impressive fashion with a pair of shutout victories last week.

The Mavericks headed into spring break on a high note as they blanked Stone Memorial 5-0 on Thursday, March 12, at ACHS.

Jimmy Rivera and Andrew Williams each scored two goals and added an assist in the victory over the Panthers.

Ethan “Money” Braden also tallied a goal for the Mavericks, while Bryce Wade added an assist.

Stone Memorial usually contends for its district title, but the Panthers are in rebuilding mode in 2026.

“They’re usually pretty good,” Anderson County Coach Chris Curtin said. “But their coach told me that they lost six all-district players and 10 starters last year.

“They have two seniors and a bunch of freshmen and sophomores.”

On Tuesday, March 10, the Mavericks blanked Heritage 2-0 at home, but Curtin said he thought the Panthers were the better of the two teams his squad faced last week.

“Heritage just basically played the ball over the top and it was like a kickball game,” he said. “I thought Stone Memorial had the better team.”

Against the Mountaineers, coached by former Knoxville Central Coach Chris Quinn, Rivera and Landon “Baby Boy” Nichols found the back of the net for the Mavericks.

Anderson County opened its 2026 campaign with an 8-0 loss to Karns on Monday, March 2.
