Decorating eggs brings joy, friendly competition

Morning Pointe Clinton residents, volunteers and visitors transformed polystyrene eggs into art, featuring pigs, faces, crosses, birds and abstract designs, among other ideas.

The competition took place Friday, March 27, at Morning Pointe Clinton.

Brittany Brantley, the facility’s life-enrichment director, said the event was open to everyone, including residents and volunteers.

She noted that it especially appealed to people who cannot spend time with their families during the Easter season.

Some participants painted eggs, while others used beads or feathers.

“It just kind of builds up life in the building,” Brantley said. “It breaks up our monotonous activities and brings a little more spice.”

She added that the activity helps improve finger dexterity and brings out residents’ competitive sides, while also building camaraderie.

The idea came from residents.

“We had a large portion ask for an egg-decorating activity,” she said. “It was something they were really excited about.”

Morning Pointe Clinton is an assisted-living facility with a memory care unit and a full-time nursing staff, along with a therapy team offering speech, physical and occupational therapy. Brantley said the facility hosts six or more activities each day.

“We are doing things to build purpose for our residents and make them feel like they’re still active in our community,” she said.

In addition to arts and crafts, the center offers a variety of activities.

Spiritual offerings include Bible studies and hymn singing.

Physical activities include chair tai chi, yoga, kickboxing, weightlifting and walking.

Cognitive activities include trivia and Pictionary, while community outreach efforts include packing donated supplies into backpacks for students.
