Mavericks grind through Classic gauntlet

The 2026 baseball season continued last week as Anderson County High School endured another busy stretch on the diamond.

The Mavericks (11-9 overall, 3-1 in District 4-AAA) opened the week by splitting a crucial league series against Gibbs.

The Eagles won the opener 5-4 at Morgan Wallen Field in Corryton.

In that game, Nolan Benson and Wil Ridenour both singled and scored, while Reese Young doubled and scored. Jeremiah Owens added a single and an RBI.

Anderson County bounced back the following day with an impressive 6-1 win at home as senior left-hander Daniel Unthank tossed a one-hitter.

He allowed only one unearned run, walked four and struck out 10 over seven innings. He also went 2-for-2 with a double, an RBI and a run scored.

Ridenour went 2-for-3 with a triple, an RBI and a run scored, while Blake Lowe doubled, scored and drove in a run.

In the Clinch River Classic, the Mavericks fell to Sevier County, 6-5 in the tournament opener.

Lowe doubled and scored against the Smoky Bears. Titus Fedders doubled, scored twice and drove in a run, while Young doubled and finished with two RBIs.

Powell defeated the Mavericks 7-2 in tournament play. Unthank doubled and scored, while Levi Skeen doubled and drove in a run.

In a 12-5 victory over The King’s Academy, Elijah Jonson went 2-for-3 with three RBIs. Unthank doubled and scored, while Young went 2-for-2. Lowe finished 2-for-4 with two runs scored and an RBI.

After an 8-2 loss to Independence, ACHS bounced back with a 5-4 win over Soddy-Daisy. Lee Goins and Tanner Hollifield combined on a one-hitter.

Benson went 2-for-4 with a double and a run scored. Lowe added two hits, an RBI and a run scored. Owens had two hits and scored once, while Fedders had two hits and an RBI.
