Lady Hawks earn district win, gain ground

The Clinton Middle Lady Hawks softball team opened district play last week with a strong showing, earning a decisive win before running into a tough Rutledge squad later in the week.

Clinton now sits at 2-1 in district play and continues to show signs of a balanced and aggressive team early in the season.

The week began Tuesday with an 11-3 victory over Cherokee, powered by a dominant first inning and a big day at the plate from Tora Beeler.

Beeler drove in four runs on two hits, including a two-run single in the second inning and a run-scoring double later in the game, leading an offense that wasted little time setting the tone.

The Lady Hawks erupted for seven runs in the first inning behind timely hitting and aggressive baserunning.

Mac Lawson delivered a two-run single, Sophia Fox added an RBI hit, and Clinton capitalized on defensive miscues to quickly build a commanding lead.

Clinton continued to apply pressure throughout the game, adding two more runs in the second inning while swiping eight stolen bases.

Lawson and Beeler each collected two hits, while Fox, Kailyn Martin, and Loila Atwater each contributed on the base paths as the Lady Hawks showcased their speed and depth.

Martin earned the win in the circle, allowing just one earned run over four innings while keeping Cherokee off balance.

The Lady Hawks carried that momentum into Thursday’s district matchup with Rutledge, jumping out to an early lead in the first inning.

Fox singled to drive in a run, and Beeler followed with a two-run groundout to give Clinton a 3-1 advantage.

Rutledge responded quickly, however, putting together a five-run second inning to take control of the game.

The Lady Pioneers added to their lead in the third and maintained the advantage on the way to a 10-4 victory.

Despite the loss, Clinton continued to produce offensively, with Fox and Caroline Jones each collecting two hits, while Beeler added two runs batted in.

Through two district contests, the Lady Hawks have shown the ability to generate offense early in games and apply consistent pressure on the base paths, key traits as the season progresses.

With a 2-1 district record, Clinton Middle Lady Hawks Softball continues to build momentum as the team looks ahead to its next stretch of games.
