Anderson County High School’s track and field teams spent the holiday weekend competing in the Oak Ridge Legends Invitational.
The Mavericks posted several Top 10 individual finishes against strong competition in Oak Ridge.
James Ayden Cole finished second in the 200-meter dash with a time of 22.69 seconds. He also was seventh in the 100-meter dash at 11.33 seconds.
Joseph Hall won the long jump with a leap of 22 feet, 9 inches. He also finished fifth in the 200 at 23.29 seconds.
It was a big day for Anderson County’s boys distance runners. In the 3,200, the Mavericks had three top-10 finishers. Cameron Hardy won the race in 10 minutes, 6.60 seconds. John Cutler was fourth in 10:36.68, and Avian Laster finished ninth in 11:31.85.
Hardy also placed third in the 1,500 in 4:15.57 and third in the 1,600 in 4:33.79. Franklin Downs finished third in the 3,200 at 10:48.63.
Anderson County Coach Harrison Calhoun said he was pleased with his teams’ performances in Oak Ridge.
“Friday was a preliminary day, and anything 800 or below was in preliminaries, and we had a lot of people qualify,” Calhoun said. “We also had our 4x100 relay team qualify.”
That relay team was made up of Hall, Lane LaRue, Cole and Kaden Chadwell.
For the Lady Mavericks, Ava Moody won the 3,200 in 11:13.64, while Mattie Lively finished sixth in the shot put with a toss of 29-7.75.
“We’re still trying to figure things out for the girls, and it’s too early,” Calhoun said. “We’re about halfway through the season.”
