Mavs show fight despite loss

In its lone match last week, the Anderson County High School boys soccer team dropped a 4-2 decision to Austin-East on Friday night.

The Mavericks (2-6) have now lost five consecutive matches.

“This was an interesting game,” ACHS coach Chris Curtin said. “It just didn’t go the way that I expected it to go.”

Anderson County trailed 2-0 at halftime before finally finding the back of the net in the second half.

“We were scoreless at halftime and they scored two goals,” Curtin said. “And then, we got a PK and that made it 2-1, and then I think they got another one.”

Andrew Wilson converted the penalty kick for the Mavericks, who are dealing with a lack of depth in 2026.

“We would certainly have an easier time if we had more numbers,” Curtin said.

Still, the coach remains optimistic.

“I think we’re getting better each week and I look forward to watching these kids grow,” Curtin said. “I think the boys out there are really committed.”

Jimmy Rivera had Anderson County’s other goal against the Roadrunners, while Gage Hull was credited with an assist.
