Lady Dragons feast on Central mistakes
Clinton High School’s flag football team got a little defensive in its latest game, a lopsided home victory over Knoxville Central on Thursday night.
The Lady Dragons’ defense came up with seven interceptions as Clinton routed the Lady Bobcats 53-6.
“Defensively, we played well,” Lady Dragons Coach Brittany Siler said. “We only scored 18 points on offense and everything else was pick-sixes.
“Every time we turned around, we were getting an interception.”
Addi Gamble returned a pair of interceptions for touchdowns for Clinton. She also scored twice on offense. Josie Moody, Anslee Carmichael and Emilee Douglas also returned interceptions for touchdowns. Carmichael finished with two interceptions, and Charli Riggs also picked off a Central pass.
Quarterback Lanee Carmichael was 6-of-16 passing for 48 yards and two touchdowns. She also had four carries for 31 yards.
Gamble caught a 26-yard touchdown pass, while Moody had two receptions for 21 yards and a touchdown.
When the dust settled, Gamble had four touchdowns. Moody scored two. Anslee Carmichael added one, and Douglas also scored.
Lady Dragons win JV game
Clinton may have routed the Lady Bobcats in the varsity game, but the junior varsity contest was anything but easy.
Clinton and Central were locked in a scoreless tie late in the fourth quarter before the Lady Dragons broke through for a 6-0 victory.
“We were getting to the end of the fourth quarter and it was 0-0,” Siler said. “And everybody was wanting to know what happened if we were tied.
“I told them it would be a tie because we had to play varsity.”
It didn’t turn out that way.
Mia Jennings connected with Anslee Carmichael on a late touchdown pass to lift the Lady Dragons to the win.
