Angel Disney last Friday celebrated the grand opening of her new business in downtown Rocky Top, called Disney DIY and Buy Crafts.

Located in an old house at 314 N. Main St., the business features the products of local artists and craftspeople, as well as space for people to come in and make their own crafts, Disney said.

“We created this to help bring the community together,” Disney said, adding that her husband, Steve Disney, is her partner in the business.

“Disney DIY & Buy Crafts LLC is your neighborhood hub for authentic creativity,” the business’ website says. “We provide a dedicated space for local artisans to showcase and sell their handmade treasures, fostering a vibrant community spirit.”

There are booths throughout the house that feature the works of several local craftspeople, including leather goods, stained glass, coal art, and woodworks.

“Almost all of our vendors are local, and they bring their crafts in to sell,” she said.

Among them are:

• Bill Blodgett, who designs stained-glass artwork.

• Lisa Pebley, who makes items out of coal that help “tell the story of Coal Creek,” Disney said.

• Michele Disney, whose Beverly Brooms offers a variety of broom artwork.

• Joe Harness, who is a wood-turner.

• James Jenkins, who does leather work.

• Christy Morris of Blue Dog Aviaries, who sells honey.

• Gina Hubner, who crochets hats and matching handbags.

• Brittany Owens, who makes hypo-allergenic personal-care products.

• Tammy Duncan, who creates “Lexie’s Freshies,” a line of room air fresheners.

Store hour are 9 a.m.-5 p.m. Tuesday-Saturday, and 1-5 p.m. Sunday (closed on Monday).

“We sell on a consignment basis,” Angel Disney said. “We don’t charge for the [booth] space.”

“We’re trying our best to help improve Rocky Top, or Lake City, as I like to call it,” Steve Disney said.

The Disneys also plan to set up a ceramics and pottery shop in another location, at 212 N. Main St. in Rocky Top, they said.
