JAMES HAROLD ROBINSON

James Harold Robinson, 75, Knoxville, passed away Wednesday, Sept. 26, 2018, at the University of Tennessee Medical Center in Knoxville.

James was born in Jellico on July 20, 1943, to the late Willard and Eloise Ensley Robinson. James was a member of Old Time Gospel in Seymour. He enjoyed spending time with family and friends, as well as hunting and fishing.

In addition to his parents, James was preceded in death by: Wife, Corrine Byrd Robinson; and daughters, Terri Renee Rickett and Connie Jane Standridge Jenkins.

Survivors: Sons, Jimmy Ray Standridge of Knoxville, James Willard Robinson of Knoxville, Melvin Dewayne Robinson and Jenny of Knoxville; brother, George “Doe Doe” Robinson and Linda of Lake City.

Visitation will be from 6 – 8 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 2, 2018, at Hatmaker Funeral Home in Lake City.

Funeral service will be held at 8 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 2, 2018 in the Hatmaker Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Tom Byrge officiating.

Family and friends will meet at Alred Cemetery in Scott County at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 3, 2018, for a graveside service with Military Honors presented by the Campbell County Honor Guard.

BULAH E. YOUNG

Bulah E. Young, 97, Lake City, passed away Wednesday, Sept. 26, 2018, in Westland, Mich.

Bulah was the beloved wife of the late Kenneth Howard Young Sr. Bulah was born on Sept. 6, 1921, in Coal Creek to the late William Carden and Ida Foust Carden. Bulah enjoyed cooking for her family and also cooking at Fox’s Restaurant. She worked in the garden and loved flowers. After retiring, she loved to quilt, watch TV, and do word search puzzles, she called it her “Book Work.”

In addition to her parents, Bulah was preceded in death by: Son, Kenneth Young Jr.; daughter, Doris Sprankles; son-in-law, Donald Ellis; daughter-in-law, Sue Young; grandson, Anthony Sprankles; brothers, Zelmer Carden, Condy Carden, and Millard Carden; sisters, Ruby Reed, Bessie McCoy, Roxie Cox, Melda Sharp, Barbara Carroll; and mother-in-law and father-in-law, Roy and Docie Young.

Survivors: Daughters, Wilma Ellis, Elizabeth McClain; sons, James Young, Stanley (Joann) Young, David (Carol) Young; daughter-in-law, Janice Young; grandchildren, Marshall Young, Marsha (Mike) Pych, Kenneth R. (Kara) Young, Angie (Kris) Morgan, Sheila (Steve) Vannewkirk, Bradley (Kalee) Young, Dwayne (Candace) Young, Kelly (Scott) Mason, Aaron McClain, Steve (Rita) Young, Connie Tarver, Billy Young, Angie (Eric) Metcalf, Heather Young, and step granddaughter Leslie (Ellis) Nipper; 25 great-grandchildren; nine great-great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be from 1- 4 p.m. Monday, Oct. 1, 2018, at Hatmaker Funeral Home in Lake City.

Funeral service will be at 4 p.m. Monday, Oct. 1, 2018, in the Hatmaker Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Tom Byrge and the Rev. Randy Norton officiating.

Interment will follow the funeral service at Leach Cemetery in Lake City.

JENNIFER LOUISE PHILLIPS

Jennifer Louise Phillips, 81, slipped into the arms of our Lord, Sept. 26, 2018.

Louise was born July 2, 1937, in Scott County, and was a member of Low Gap Baptist Church. She later lived in Anderson County, where she raised her seven sons and was a member of Clinch River Baptist Church. She was a gracious and loving mother and grandmother. Most of all she loved spending time with her family. She loved holidays and her family reunion because that meant time with family. She was an avid reader and truly enjoyed years of being a substitute teacher and then bookkeeper.

Louise was preceded in death by: Parents, Ezra and Clara Rose; brother, Claude Rose; sisters and brothers-in-law, Emma and Carl Reed, Faye and James Jeffers; brothers-in-law, Ron Smith and Glen Dunavent.

She is survived by: Sisters, Lula Smith and Joyce Dunavent; sons, Dennis Phillips of Clinton, Doug Phillips of Clinton, Billy Phillips and wife Angie of Clinton, Jeff Phillips and wife Tammy of Knoxville, Audie Phillips of Clinton, Ezra Phillips of Knoxville, Nick Phillips and wife Jaclyn of Harriman; many grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.

She was a loving Aunt to many nephews and nieces.

Visitation was from 1 – 4 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 30, 2018, at Hatmaker Funeral Home in Lake City.

Funeral service was held at 4 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 30, 2018, in the Hatmaker Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Robbie Leach officiating.

Family and friends met at 11:30 a.m. Monday, Oct. 1, 2018, at Reed Cemetery in Scott County for a graveside service.

MELVIN (BATMAN) STANLEY KESTERSON

Melvin (Batman) Stanley Kesterson, 82, Summerville, S.C., passed in peace surrounded by family Tuesday, Sept. 25, 2018.

He left a lasting legacy and will be deeply missed and cherished always. Batman was born March 22, 1936, in Clinton. He was a hard-working man who spent 36 years employed with John Deere specifically James River Equipment in Richmond, Va. He was an avid sports fan with a love for golf and the Tennessee Volunteers.

He was a follower of Jesus Christ and was a member of Staples Mill Road Baptist Church in Glen Allen, Va.

Preceded in death by: Parents, Hubert and Acie Kesterson; sisters, Dorothy Kesterson, Lou Jean Riddell; brother, Curtis Kesterson; and son, Melvin Kesterson Jr.

Papaw Batman loved his family and was a real-life superhero to his wife of 59 years, Wanda; son, Greg (Donna) of Concord, N.C.; daughter, Robin (Darryl) Franklin of Summerville, S.C.; grandchildren, Nicole (Ryan) Campbell of Forest, Va., Ben (Jake) Kesterson of Charlotte, N.C., Hailee Kesterson (fiancé Michael) of Cornelius, N.C., Becca (Dawjr) Wood of Wake Forest, N.C., Moriah Cockerham of Concord, N.C., and Morgan Cockerham of Concord, N.C.; great-grandchildren, Emma Wood, Aubrey Wood, Gaines Campbell, and three great grandchildren on the way; brothers, Robert Kesterson, Carl Kesterson, and Larry Kesterson; numerous nieces and nephews; countless friends.

A graveside celebration of his life will be held at 11 a.m. Nov. 3, 2018, at Grandview Memorial Gardens, 219 Longmire Rd in Clinton.

BERNICE KYLE BEVERLY

Bernice Kyle Beverly, 83, Kingston, passed away Tuesday, Sept. 25, 2018, at Methodist Medical Center of Oak Ridge.

He was born Feb. 24, 1935, in Dorchester, Va., to Fredrick and Edna Williams Beverly. He joined the military in 1953 and was proud to be a United States Army veteran. He was a member of Potter’s House Fellowship Church in Kingston. Kyle worked for more than 15 years at Jerry Duncan Ford. He retired from X-10 Nuclear Plant after 29 years as a machinist.

Survivors: Wife of 61 years, Mary Helen Dalton Beverly of Kingston; children, Vicki Thomas and husband Jeff of Big Stone Gap, Va., the Rev. Kyle Beverly and wife Judy of Kingston, Joyce Fletcher and husband Brian of Cleveland, Molly McDonald and husband Glenn of Cookeville; grandchildren, Kyle and Cara, Jacob and Rachel, Kaylen, Kirby, Paul Mitchell and Amanda, Kendall and Kelli; great-granddaughter, Sawyer; brother, Jimmy Beverly and wife Barbara of Hopewell, Va.; sisters, Brenda Carter of Bristol, Va., Teresa Fugate and husband Rev. Monty Fugate of Somerset, Ky.; several nieces, nephews and a host of extended family and friends.

The family will receive friends from 5 – 7 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 27, 2018, at Potter’s House Fellowship Church in Kingston with funeral service following at 7 p.m., with the Rev. Kyle Beverly, the Rev. Glenn McDonald and the Rev. Mike Dalton officiating.

Family and friends will meet at Cedar Grove Cemetery at 11 a.m. Friday, Sept. 28, for graveside service.

ZACHARY ADAM MOORE

Zachary Adam Moore, 27, Clinton, passed away Sunday, Sept. 23, 2018.

He was born July 8, 1991, to Rodney and Debbie Hansard Moore. Zach enjoyed looking for arrowheads, hunting ginseng and gardening. Zach was a gentle soul and was much loved. He also enjoyed working alongside his father.

Zach was preceded in death by: Grandmothers, Anna Hansard and Evelyn Wills.

Survived by: Parents, Rodney and Debbie Moore; brother, Travis Aaron Moore and wife Nichole; nephews, Lincoln and Levi Moore; grandfathers, Bobby Hansard and James A. ANCIL HYDEN

Ancil Hyden, 79, Clinton, passed away Saturday, Sept. 22, 2018, at Beverly Park Place in Knoxville.

He was born May 5, 1939, to the late Jack and Arizona Petree Hyden in Fonde, Ky. He was a member of the Church of God Mountain Assembly and enjoyed singing in church. He also loved going to car shows and riding his motorcycle. He loved his family, especially his grandchildren and will be dearly missed.


He is preceded in death by his parents; brother, Kenneth Hyden of Siler, Ky.; sisters, Bernice Chaffin of Siler, Ky., and Juanita Gibson of Detroit, Mich.


He is survived by: Loving former wife, Hazel Hyden; children, Aaron Hyden and wife Jennifer of Cleveland, Dion Hyden of Clinton, Ancil Hyden Jr. of McMinnville, Timmy Hyden of Michigan, Amber McNeal and husband Jason of Powell, Priscilla Malone of McMinnville, Pam Hyden of Nashville; step-children, John Dycus of Knoxville, and Lana Hughes of Knoxville; brothers, Don Hyden and wife Trena of Clinton, Dean Hyden and wife Lavonda of Mayville; sister, Reba Douglas and husband Russ of Knoxville; several grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and other family and friends.

EUGENE HICKS GILES

Eugene Hicks Giles, 86, Clinton, passed away Friday, Sept. 21, 2018, at Methodist Medical Center of Oak Ridge.

Eugene was born in Anderson County on December 24, 1931, to Sam and Lola Brock Giles. He worked as a machinist at Y12. He was a member of the Bass Club and an avid fisherman.

He was preceded in death by: Parents; and brother, Elmer Giles.

He is survived by: Wife of 33 years, Charmaine Giles; daughters, Annette (Greg) Parton, Kathy Patterson, Machille (Marty) Merrick, Melissa (Jonathan) Williams; step-children, Shaun Davis and Tawana Byron; sister,s Ann Weaver, and Gail (L.C.) McCoy; brother, Lawrence (Dottie) Giles; and several grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be from 6 – 8 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 25, 2018, at Woodhaven Funeral Home Chapel. Graveside service will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 26, 2018, at Woodhaven Funeral Home and Memorial Gardens, 160 Edgemoor Road, Powell.
